The Gorge Restaurant

 The Gorge Restaurant

The Gorge Restaurant is a modern Australian restaurant located in the tranquil grounds of the Cataract Gorge Reserve in Launceston.

The restaurant is a little oasis nestled amongst the greenery of the reserve and provides both an indoor and outdoor dining experience.

On warm days, the alfresco dining area is the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a meal in the shade while listening to the natural soundtrack of the resident peacocks and watching the chairlifts peacefully float by.

On cooler days, the crackling wood fire and crisp white tablecloths make the indoor dining area particularly alluring.

The menu showcases quality Tasmanian produce and each meal is beautifully plated with care and precision.

The Tasmanian bush pepper calamari was presented delicately and had just the right amount of zing to awaken and prepare your tastebuds for the next course.

The eye fillet steak was cooked to perfection - juicy and succulent with an oyster in the middle which gave the steak a delicious flavour that complemented the prawns, scallops and garlic butter. The scallops and prawns were plump and plentiful.

Make sure you save room for dessert - the buttery, melt-in-your-mouth apple frangipane tart was drizzled with the most delicious salted caramel glaze and the creamy espresso panna cotta was accompanied by a tasty gingerbread, candied pecans and dark chocolate soil - a welcome textural element.

Dining at this restaurant was a really enjoyable experience - the staff were friendly and attentive, the location was stunning and the food was amazing. Don't overlook this restaurant because it's in a 'touristy area'.
