Prince of Wales Hotel

Prince of Wales Hotel is located in the historic Hobart suburb of Battery Point.

The Prince of Wales offers counter meals at the bar as well as meals in its restaurant. The focus of this review is on the restaurant.

The décor of the restaurant is fresh and chic. It has more of a restaurant vibe than that of a pub bistro.

The menu offers usual pub food such as chicken schnitzels and steaks, but also offers a more elevated pub-style fare.

The slow cooked lamb shoulder croquettes with fresh mint, green peas and crumbled feta were soft and tasty and the crumbed outer shell was a crispy and golden. The rich and flavoursome romesco sauce gave the dish some moisture and elevated the dish. We would have loved a bit more of that sauce on the plate!

The seafood chowder was creamy, had a lovely hum of garlic and was full of plump seafood .

The slow braised lamb shoulder served with miso sweet potato fresh vegetables, whipped garlic butter and jus was divine. The lamb was rich and amazingly tender. The dark, thick jus tied all of the elements together.

The Prince of Wales has a fish of the day, which is usually white fish and always beautifully cooked.

On the occasions that we have dined at The Prince of Wales, the fish of the day has been a generous fillet of golden macadamia encrusted trevalla, accompanied by a delicate creamy sauce (lemon and tarragon cream sauce on one occasion) and vegetables.

The chicken schnitzel is thick and juicy and comes with the most delicious crunchy, seasoned skin-on fries.

We absolutely adored the fries!

The meals are generous in size, so unfortunately we've never had enough room to indulge in dessert!
